five little modular-synth etudes
Last month I spent my end-of-year research money adding to my little
modular system (started last year, see the
modudrones
page for some of the initial fun!). To get familiar with the new
module additions I produced these five little pieces. I had also just
completed -- more or less -- my big VR project, calling the
finished work (for now)
"myplaces-beta2".
I'll probably make a few changes and wrap it up as a release
in the near future.
So I also wanted to get back to simply making some sounds.
These were the result. Synthesizers! Yeah! Wow!! Wow!!!
some notes:
- Each of the pieces is relatively different from the others. I didn't
start with any set 'plan'; I just started patching and made up stuff as
I went along
- I did explicitly try to use some of the synth sounds I remember from
my youth, especially my high school and early college days when I
was lusting after minimoog sounds. Wow! Wow!
- Several of the pieces feature an envelope-generator module called
the "Quad Envelope Generator (QEG)", designed and built by my good friend
Todd Silva. Todd was thinking about starting a business manufacturing
modules, but decided it would be too much like work. He let me have
this one for free! I've known Todd since high school. We've had years
of fun together.
- Much gratitude to Anna Meadors for sending the gear out to me on
Whidbey Island!
- "thinking of Daniel" -- I miss our son.
