I had finished several pieces
(melodiseqs,
guitar-chords)
and had sent links to them around to friends/coilleagues/collaborators,
and I got a very nice reply back from my good friend Karl Fury. Karl is
an exceptional guitar-based electronic composer, and part of what he sent
me in response to my new pieces was a link to some slightly older work
of his,
3 Guitara.
I really liked these pieces, and a part of me wanted them to go much,
much longer, maybe via loops or something.
But that would break the 'small windows on vast worlds'
aspect that I liked about his original three pieces.
I coudn't resist, however, and I decided to use some DSP algorithms
to stretch and process Karl's original work to allow me to 'inhabit' the
worlds I could glimpse through his windows. The results are the three
pieces linked above.
I'll be honest, I haven't had a lot of big regrets about the life I've
lived (or
regerts
as I like to call 'em). I'm pretty happy with what I've done and
where I've landed... so far.
I do wish, however, I'd done more with Karl. He's an
amazing guitarist/improviser/composer with really interesting
aesthetics, very similar to my
own. We've done a fair amount of music together:
brad + karl duos:
with other people:
and perhaps this trans-continental 'collaboration' might lead the way
to more in the future. Come out to Whidbey Island, Karl!
