The course will operate using a lecture/extended lab-critique paradigm. Lectures will be given during a two-hour meeting each week, to be followed immediately by a longer studio session intended to focus on specific student concerns. The course will start from a rather broad perspective, offering a general overview of contemporary multimedia work as well as a survey of existing tools and techniques available for use in the class. The course will then move to a more "student-centered" phase, where collaborative teams from different disciplines will be identified and work on specific projects initiated by the student teams. These projects will then provide focal points for commentary and broader intellectual perspective during the latter part of the class.

Much of this broader context will be provided by several guest lecturers (indicated on the syllabus below). We will also be asking our invited guests to select individuals they draw upon for technical support to participate in the "lab" portion of the class. This unique aspect of the course will give students both the intellectual viewpoint and the technical grounding important for significant new work in the field.
