Class Demo Project 1
We took a Blender-made rock and set it adrift in space, with sounds that
shifted as you got closer to it. And psychedelic stars! We'll add a bit
more to it (video on the surface) next week.
late-breaking-news: We did add video to it! See the links
below.
Links
- object1.zip
-- this is the Unity project I did over the summer when thinking
about this class (and other things). I started a series tentatively
called "objects of contemplation", and this was the first one. It
is slightly different than the re-creation we did in class, but
the basics are the same.
particle systems
- Unity particle system live training (video)
-- another 'live' recording from Unity. This was the tutorial I used to
learn about particle systems; it's quite good (video)
- Introduction to Particle Systems (Ray Wenderlich)
-- a good text-based (and searchable) tutorial
- another good one
-- this one gets a bit more involved, not too long though (video)
- Unity Particle Systems manual pages
-- the reference for particle systems use, both in the editor and
scripting (so you can control the ps within a script). Use the
button at the top to switch between the two.
adding photos and videos to a scene
- Playing Video in Unity
-- the Unity tutorial on setting up and controlling videos in a scene.
Quite good.
- previous class (Spring 2021, week6)
-- this has some useful links and a basic video/image project that
might be instructive, including:
- video of the class
-- a video showing how we worked up a scene with vids and photos. The
first part talks about localization (we'll cover it in a couple of weeks),
and the 'importing vids' part starts about 22 minutes into the recording.
Class Downloads
- g6610-fall2021-week5-maxmsp-patches.zip
-- the drone sounds (plus interaction) and 'rainy' noise sounds we
made for the Unity project in class.
- g6610-fall2021-week5-pd-patches.zip
-- the pd versions of the patches we did in class.
- week5-unity.zip
-- the Unity project we did in class. It's a Blender-made
rock that floats in a star-studded space (we made the skybox dark),
and the sound alters as you get closer to it. On the right-hand
side is a trigger for a 'rainy' sound if you get close enough.
We added a few lights to make it look snazzier.
- week5-watervideo-unity.zip
-- the version of the Unity project with video mapped onto the object.
- object1.blend.zip
-- the simple Blender project file with the bumpy rock-thing.
Note that we didn't delete the Blender-supplied camera and light,
so we had to turn them off in Unity.
