Assignment 4:

Using libraries for input and output; creating a body of patches:

By now, you should be getting the hang of how to get you ideas across in OpenMusic. If you're having some issues getting a firm grasp of some concepts, take this opportunity to explore and figure those things out to your satisfaction.

As a suggestion for the next assignment, there are two directions you can start working in. If you have not already done so, check out the numerous libraries available for OpenMusic and check out their examples. With some of these libraries you can create patches that either except external data from other IRCAM programs like Audiosculpt, or create files that can be used to control other programs like Csound, Modalys or Audiosculpt.

Another suggestion is to work and try to create a 'set' or 'body' of patches that may or may not be related specifically by technique, but may serve different purposes within one piece. These don't have to be 'huge' patches – several small ones could work as well. For instance, you could have one patch that could give you material for one part of a piece, and another that would function in another portion. Try and think about how these different patches could fit together in some way, possibly with the output of one patch affecting the input of another.
