Unity
A whirlwind of a class! Unity in less than two hours! Whew!
Seriously, we covered a lot of the basic operation of Unity, and then
produced a 'fun' scene (Antarctica) based on earlier work done in this
class last year. The links below should provide a lot of additional
information for those wanting to get more into VR/AR/XR.
Links
- main uRTcmix web page
-- with the uRTcmix packages for importing into Unity and some
nice 'utility;' programs (like the "brad-observer" and the "scoralyzer"
packages)
- Unity download links from an earlier class
-- scroll down, there are links to the main Unity page,
the Unity download page (I showed in class), and an
archive of all the past versions of Unity.
- Unity basic tutorial links from an earlier class
-- note also the "former Brad class" link to a video showing
you to set up uRTcmix. It's a little dated, it's better to follow
the videos on the
main uRTcmix
web page.
- Unity terrain tutorials
-- links to some good ones from last year's class. Note that there
is a "video of this class" link in the upper left of the web page.
- Unity particle system tutorials
-- again, links to some good ones from last year's class.
Note that here also
is a "video of this class" link in the upper left of the web page.
- week9-unity.zip
-- this is the earlier "Antarctica" model we did in class last
year, complete with the 'hidden' trigger and the catcano!
NOTE: To reduce the size of this archive, I deleted the "Library"
folder before making this archive. This means that when you first
load it, none of the work we did will show, and the "Scene" will be
listed as "Untitled". Go to the "Scenes" folder in the Assets and
double-click (or maybe single-click, I forgot) on the "SampleScene"
and it will rebuild the scene properly.
- earlier class (Fall, 2021) syllabus
- earlier class (Spring, 2021) syllabus
- earlier class (Spring, 2020) syllabus
-- these contain some useful information about doing things like
importing videos into Unity, doing sound localization, making
custom game objects, working with scene lighting, etc. They're
a bit dated but the basic stuff is there (along with projects
you can run).

- g6610-fall2025-week11-unityprojects.zip
-- archive with the two Unity projects we did in class.
"week11-class1" is the basic square-above-a-plane project
(with a beeping sound!) and "week11-class2" is our little
model of Antarctica.
NOTE: As above, to reduce the size of this archive, I deleted the
"Library" folder before making this archive. This means that when
you first load it, none of the work we did will show, and the
"Scene" will be listed as "Untitled". Go to the "Scenes" folder
in the Assets and double-click (or maybe single-click, I forgot)
on the "SampleScene" and it will rebuild the scene properly.
