Acousmatic music is music where you don't see the source of the sound. The sounds might have their origins in recorded real-world or acoustic sounds that are then treated and processed, or synthesized sounds -- the important thing is that the source of the sound is invisible to the listener. One of the possibilities the acousmatic medium has opened up is the ability to create a unique sense of acoustic space -- one is able to create the impression of space and then change that space, for example, from outdoors to indoors or from one type of indoor space to another. The sound objects are then heard to be moving within this impression of space, and thus different kinds of sound worlds may be created.
