Dan Trueman

Dan Trueman plays electric violin and composes. He has studied classical violin with Irene Lawton, jazz with Pat Harbison, and the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle with Loretta Kelley, Hauk Buen and Leif Rygg. He has composed for and worked with ensembles such as the Amernet and Cassatt string quartets, the Paul Dresher Ensemble, the Newman-Oltman guitar duo, and his wife, guitarist Monica Mugan. He is a member of the electroacoustic improvisational duo interface(with Curtis Bahn) that has performed throughout the Northeast and in Europe. He has worked with Perry Cook on the construction of several new variations of the electric violin, including the R-bow--a violin bow fitted with sensors--and the Bomb--a spherical speaker--both of which he uses in performance. He studied physics at Carleton College (though he got his start in composition there with Phillip Rhodes), composition at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati with Brad Garton and Allen Sapp, and is now a doctoral fellow in composition at Princeton University where he has worked with Paul Lansky, Steve Mackey, and Louis Andriessen.
