Kathy Supove

In recent seasons, Kathleen Supove has established a unique position of versatility among contemporary pianists. She is at the forefront of virtuoso piano soloists as well as experimental electronic keyboard players.

As a soloist, Ms. Supove has performed and premiered works by countless emerging and established composers. She gives a regular series called The Exploding Piano that features recent piano music. Her playing has been described as breathtakingly brillian(t) (Alex Ross, NY Times) and the series has been praised for attract(ing) the kind of young, hip, overflow crowd that makes the heart jump with hope for musics future.(Bernard Holland, NY Times). Her solo CD, Figure 88, on CRIs Emergency Music label, was named one of the Ten Best Classical Releases of 1993 by New York Newsday critic Tim Page. Other recordings of hers can be found on the CRI, New World, Neuma, Bridge, Centaur, OO, and XI labels. In addition, she has recently performed numerous contemporary concertos including those of Ligeti, Xenakis, Messiaen, Michael Daugherty, and Randall Woolf.

As an experimental keyboard player and performance artist, Ms. Supove is half of the duo twisted tutu with composer/performer Eve Beglarian. She is also the keyboard and sampler player for Nick Didkovskys band, Dr. Nerve, as well as for Randall Woolfs band, Camp. In addition, she appears frequently in two- piano recitals with Anthony De Mare. She is also working on creating a repertoire for acoustic piano and effects processor.
