Rand Steiger

Rand Steiger has had his compositions performed by many prominent ensembles including the St. Paul and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestras, the American Composers Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, for whom he served as a resident composer. He was the founding director of the California EAR Unit, a contemporary music ensemble in residence at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He has conducted the Unit in over one hundred performances throughout North America and Europe, many of which have been broadcast. His performances and compositions are available on compact disks from Nonesuch, Centaur, Crystal, CRI, Mode, New World, and New Albion. Steiger has been involved in electronic music research for over twenty years, since first participating in the design and construction of a digital/analog hybrid synthesizer at the Manhattan School of Music in the 1970's. He is currently a Professor in the Music Department of the University of California, San Diego, where he served as Department Chair from 1993-97.
