Welcome to the Class!
fun fun fun!
Links
Not too many for this class. Check the main
resources
page if you want to start surfing the web a little for this
class. It needs updating, and maybe THIS WILL BE THE YEAR that I
do it.
For those who would like to do some reading, here are a few
books and on-line links to explore:
- Designing Sound
(the entire book)
- Designing Sound
(on-line PDF, abridged (uses the
pd language)
- Designing Sound
(Wikibooks, using the
SuperCollider
language)
-
These are all more-or-less the same thing (except the Actual Book has much
more info), written by Andy Farnell. An interesting look at thinking
about how to build sound-synthesis algorithms.
- Music and Computers
-
written by a group of good people (including our very own Douglas
Repetto!), this is a nice introduction to how sound synthesis and
DSP works, complete with on-line examples.
- Real Sound Synthesis for Interactive Applications
-- Perry Cook
-
Perry's book about sound synthesis, good discussions and
a nice intro to some of the math involved
- Apple Developer Site
-
If you are using a Mac, you will need to register here to get
the Development Tools (compilers, etc.) you will need to build
the instruments we create in class. You want "XCode Tools"
from the "Mac Dev Center".
Assignment
+ bring in examples of sounds you would like to make!
