Interacting with a Process
sound synthesis and synthesis models
working with a pre-existing synthesis instrument, data-interpretation
as synthesis, modeling a physical process as synthesis.
Links
- our 'resources' page
-- under the Basic Synthesis Information link are some
good tutorials covering FM synthesis (the first instrument we used)
- RTcmix.org
-- documentation on the RTcmix music language Brad always uses
because he is that kind of guy (use the rtcmix~ link to download
the [rtcmix~] object for Max/MSP)
- older bug-sound class
-- a very ancient class where we modeled the sound of bugs
- Brad's bug piece
-- the one titled "number 4" has the fake swamp; it starts about
1/2-way through (hi Mario!)
- Home Guitars
-- real live bugs! Couldn't resist throwing this one up here...
- dlooch
-- the Apple Dashboard widget that has the wind/tree model in it
Applications and Examples
Class patches:
These are the series of max/msp patches we did in class. The "fm" patches
work up the interactive FM synthesis thing (minus the final routing
through the plug-in effects). The "picture" patches show the development
of the data-interpretation patch that scans the picture of the trees,
and the "piney" patches progress through the creation of our fun
wind-through-the-pine-trees patch.
Let me (brad) know of these don't unpack on your machine.
