• Computer Music Composition with RTcmix -- a book (available free, on-line) by Jerod Sommerfeldt about using RTcmix. Much is devoted to running the 'standalone' version; you can skip through that to get to the main language info.
  
  NOTE: if you look on the CMC Course Archive page, you'll see links to the past CMC classes Sound: Advanced Topics I and Sound: Advanced Topics II courses. Many of these have RTcmix tutorials and example patches linked in their syllabi.
  
  Also, there are many good Max/MSP tutorials out there, including documentation that is part of the Max/MSP app you downloaded.
