I hadn't done much music during the fall term. Zoom classes were difficult,
and I wanted to do a good job. Lots of on-line content to prepare and general
hyped-uppedness I had to
work to attain, blah blah blah. But I also always feel
diminished when not creating sounds, so I started again going down
into the studio after dinner. At first I fooled around with making
some 'funky beat' clips, but nothing seemed to really jump. Then
I started messing around on the guitar, trying to do some
Brad-shredding with lots of effects, and mixing several of the different
beat-experiments together underneath. For some reason I thought of rondo
form, probably because I was teaching it in my "Music Humanities" (western
classical history) class at Columbia about that time.
I was thinking I might want this one to be a little optimistic, taking
a stand against the pandemic and the on-going horror of Donald Trump.
The original working title was beat1hope.
When I added the vocal part, I needed some words to sing, and I just
started with "wash away". I want that to happen to all vestiges of
Trumpness. It will probably require a lot of bleach (ha ha).
I'm not sure what I think of this one. Life has been so weird and
floaty lately that it's hard for me to map. But here it is.
