five more little modular-synth etudes, with a sequencer!
Seth Cluett convinced me to buy a small sequencer, a Korg SQ-1, to go
with the new modules I picked up at the end of the academic term (I
think Seth's words were: "It's a sequencer party in a box!").
Like the previous
summer-modular2023
pieces, these were all realized using my eurorack modular system, but the
controller in each one was the 'party box' sequencer. As with the
previous five little etudes, I tried to make each one relatively
different from the others. I also tried to stay away from too many
sequencer clichés; you know, the chunka-chunka teutonic-synth music
that I listened to (a lot!) back in the 1980's. In summer-seq-4
for example,
I used the reverb/echo 'residue' (i.e. the fade out part) from
summer-seq-1 to form the long, evolving chords. Not too 'sequency'.
But I couldn't resist the Deutsche-aspect in a few! Wow-wow-wow-wow!!!!
