What should people do? What should I do? I'm a composer, so I could launch an ineffectual musical protest of some kind. I could craft a sonic representation -- maybe with some VR thrown in -- of just how bad this will be. It will be bad. I could try producing more of my 2016 FDT pieces. But I simply don't have the drive or the enthusiastic rage I did back then. Well, certainly the rage, but my energy is depleted.
What I need now is music to hide in, music to help recover, music to wash away the corruption now gripping the world. Listening, I went back through the recent modular-synth and VCV-rack pieces I have done. I found moments of repose/quietude scattered here and there, and I fused them together to give me musical release, hopefully. retreat_zone is the result. It's pathetically not much in the face of the vile happenings now taking place. As I said, though, I'm a composer: this is what I do.
I am so very, very sad for our children and our gandchildren.
