look-ma-no-hands program notes I like Big Chords. I do! But I only have ten fingers on my hands (or such was the case the last time I checked), so my piano-playing chord ability is somewhat limited. Limited, that is, unless I use *technology*. Zen I kann take over zee vorld -- or at least the piano -- vis meine technology. Seriously, when Jaime Madell asked me to write a piece for this Disklavier concert, I saw a chance to use some simple compositional algorithms to build large clusters of sound on the piano. I am using a video tracking system to control the spacing and shape of the Big Chords, following my hand position above the keyboard. What fun!
