I thought of an alternative approach that may work better; as I mentioned on the piece website (linked below) the BlackHole routing system would frequenctly stop working after 5 minutes or so. I'll probably give the alternative a test soon.
Also, this is what I wrote upon hearing the news that Greg Horn had died:
I learned several hours ago that Greg had died. I initially didn't believe it, thinking it was an FB scam of some sort. But it's true. I am very, very, very profoundly sad.If I had to list five people who have most influenced my life, Greg would be among them. We started an 'experimental music' duo at Purdue in the mid-1970s called "Accept the Bop" and performed in various venues with tape loops, tape delays, all kinds of interesting approaches to making music. Greg was the one who introduced me to that wonderful world of music creation. At the same time, the Zounds recording studio (co-owner Rick Thomas) was ramping up, becoming a big part of the nascent midwest punk/progressive scene. Greg and I continued to make music -- a lot of it! -- together, exploring our growing studio resources. Soon Greg formed the Dow Jones and the Industrials band with Chris Clark and Tim North, and after a time they asked me to be a Brian-Eno-like character in the band (initially I even performed offstage by the mixing board).
Pretty much all of this was a result of Greg's imagination and almost limitless talent. He showed me, showed us all, a musical future that still informs my outlook, music AND life, today. We all had our demons to face back in those golden days, and Greg's were particularly difficult.
Dang. dang. dang. dang, though. I somehow always thought that Greg would make it through everything and we'd get together again to record like we did, recreating the joys of our past. Now that will not be.
