costiks

hardware:   Apple MacBook M4 Air, Eurorack modular system/hardware, Gibson Epiphone "Les Paul" guitar
software:   Apple Logic Pro X, Max/MSP, RTcmix, paulstretch

Lots of distortion pedals! Angry sounds! Too much political news!

A few comments:

In all three of these I used a control voltage generated by RTcmix ([rtcmix~]) in Max/MSP to index into the 128 presets of the Intellijel Plonk module. That formed the random-sequencer-like rhythmic base in each piece. On top of these I layered some guitar sounds.

  • For costik1 I did a fairly long improvisation on the guitar and then sectioned it up into smaller fragments for the piece.

  • In costik2 I set up the guitar to make on-going sounds and then sampled each one into a small chunk and pasted them together.

  • costik3 was built by applying the 'paulstretch' algorithm to take a set of the chunks from costik2 and applying a stretch factor of 20 times the original length to each one. The pitches heard 'fell out' of the processed sound.
