Interlocks1

I think this is a special piece. I worked on it in the weeks while Jill and I packed up our Roosevelt home for a move to our new home on Whidbey Island. The big problem with "Jill and I" is that I had broken my ankle -- ironically walking out the front door of our new home -- about a month prior to the big boxing. I was of minimal home-packing value.

I decided I could get a jump on my sabbatical project (fortunately I was set to be on leave for the coming academic year) while being rather useless as a mover. The reason this piece is called Interlocks1 is because I intended to explore some ways of putting musical snippets together for the project I had in mind.

But the music took on a life of it's own, and soon I began thinking of it as my farewell piece for Roosevelt. I mixed in some of the many (many!) recordings I had made of the sonic environment where we had lived for the past 33 years.

This is the result. I decided to keep the name Interlocks1 because life can be a series of "interlocks". We're here, we're connecting to the Pacific Northwest, our grandson, our family; it all fits into place.
