Building Music
I wrote this to commemorate the dedication of the
American United Life building
in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the time it was the tallest
building in the city. Hey, I was an opportunistic kinda guy! The
Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra played it at the dedication ceremony.
I really had no idea what I was doing.
I had been listening to a lot of minimalism (Reich/Glass/Riley),
and this piece used a lot of semi-random pitches aligned along
the harmonic series of a set of six chords (the AUL building was
a hexagon). Wow, spectral music way back in 1983! I done thought
it sounded real purty.
(music here if I can find it)
