After Brenda and her husband John had left in a packed-full SUV, I was alone in the house for one more day. I finished cleaning a few items, and that evening I sat down at our Baldwin Acrosonic piano and played: improvising, songs from memory, chord progressions, just like I did when I was 40+ years younger.
The piano is being relocated to a church where it will get good use, thanks to our family friend Jane Irwin. The rest of the things left in the house have been removed/sold, and the house is now bare. It's ready for new occupants. We're scheduled to close in a few weeks.
During my last session with the piano, I hit upon and repeated the
chords used to build HOME. It is the last piece I composed
on that piano. I worked to keep it at a very slow pace, like a good
memory. I'm very happy with the results. I think this is
one of the better pieces I've done lately.
