This interface is a rather complex arrangement between lisp, (GCL with the RTcmix modifications -- see the "lisp" directory in this package), java and RTcmix. The java interface allows the user to select a portion of a map of Europe. This selection is then communicated to a lisp program via a translation program ("styleserver"); the lisp program contains rulesets and data for controlling an RTcmix physical model of a flute (METAFLUTE) and performing in different musical styles. To run the application, start a browser on the Style.html file. Then execute the "startstyleserver" command. This will invoke the "gestflute.lisp" file, which in turn starts up the "styleserver" and the RTcmix instruments needed. Once the "styleserver" is running, you can connect to it by selecting "localhost" (use the "additional parameters" button on the interface) -- or whatever machine you are using to run the "styleserver" program -- and then clicking on a region in the map of Europe. Disconnecting from the "styleserver" will shut down the "styleserver", RTcmix and lisp processes. They should be restarted before connecting again. As with the other java apps, you will need to disable TCP/IP security on your browser to make this work. NOTE: The interpolation between different regions on the map (different musical styles) is a little rough in this, and the lag time is noticeable. But it's fun to fool around with, and it can play the flute better than I can! brad
