My Book of Dreams -- possible problems
Macintosh OS X
- My Book of Dreams seems to run well on most 10.4 and 10.5
machines. Be patient -- it does take awhile to load! If you have
an older 10.3.9 machine, chances are that it isn't fast enough to
run the application without large gaps in the audio and "jumpy"
graphics, but I do have a version that will run on 10.3.9. Send
me e-mail: garton-at-columbia-dot-edu and I can get it
to you.
- One problem that has occurred with people running this on completely
new Macintoshes is that the audio system may not have been initialized.
If you hear no sound, quit the application and restart it. Before
clicking in the main title square, type "d" on the keyboard. This will
bring up a small window that will allow you to select the audio output
device (the default you probably want is "CoreAudio Built-in Output").
The audio should restart in about 30 seconds to 1 minute. If it doesn't,
quit and restart the application and it should work well. Actually,
it's a good idea to restart the application anyhow. [NOTE:
you can also use this to send the audio through a different output
device for those with external audio converters.]
- If all this fails and you have
Max/MSP/Jitter
installed on your machine, grab the 'source' patches here:
BookOfDreams-src.zip
and open the BookOfDreams.pat patcher. [NOTE:
you will need both the
[rtcmix~]
and
[maxlispj]
objects installed. This can't be built in Max 5 -- yet.]
Windows XP
- I have heard of crashes on some dual-core Pentium machines, and I
have been unable to fix the problem completely because of my limited
access to (and inability to reproduce) the crashes. It seems that if
you try to start the application and it crashes, try restarting
and it may then run properly (one friend/tester said he would do
this several times!). Hopefully this will be cleared up once I'm able to
port my objects to
Max 5.
- I'm fairly certain that this will not run under Vista, but I don't
know that for sure.
- If it is crashing and you have
Max/MSP/Jitter
installed on your machine, grab the 'source' patches here:
BookOfDreams-wsrc.zip
and open the BookOfDreams.pat patcher. It seems to work fine
on all machines. [NOTE: you will need both the
[rtcmix~]
and
[maxlispj]
objects installed. This can't be built in Max 5 -- yet.]
If you do encounter problems, please let me know:
garton-at-columbia-dot-edu. I hope you will be able to run and
enjoy the 'book'!
