Another wonderful ArtBots show!

The Third Annual ArtBots: The Robot Talent Show took place on September 17, 18, and 19 at The Mink Building in Harlem. It was a terrific success, with 20 works by artists from seven countries, thousands of excited visitors (including countless kids!) from all over the city and the world, and wide media coverage.

We'd like to thank the many hard-working artists and volunteers who kindly contributed their time and tremendous energy to the show. Putting on a low-budget but ambitious show like ArtBots takes an awful lot of work, and without the talent and support of our many collaborators and volunteers it could never happen. Thanks also to our sponsors, the Columbia University Computer Music Center and the Digital Media Center of Columbia University's School of the Arts, who very generously provided not only the funds, but also the time and institutional support necessary to produce the show. And finally, special thanks to Mark Tribe and Mary Flanagan, my co-curators for the show this year. Without their insight and support the show would not have been nearly as diverse, well designed, or as much fun as it was!

Each year we give out two awards, the Audience Choice Award and the Artists' Choice Award. This year the winner of both awards was Bruce Shapiro's Sisyphus, a graceful robot that makes stunning patterns in sand. Congratulations to Bruce and to all of the artists for a terrific show, and thanks again for your hard work and good will. We'll be back again next year -- so get to work on that ArtBot!
